Advocacy and Support: Parent Support The Family Project of CASPA helps parents with young children (under 8yrs old) move off welfare dependency and towards self-sufficiency and independence. Professional staff members counsel parents and help them plan for their children's future. Families learn how to access community programs that enable them to complete their education, locate quality, subsidized day care and train for jobs that will pay them a fair wage. The Time Out for Tots Program meets weekly and offers "Moms Only" discussion groups as well as "Play Groups" for young mothers (ages 15-19) and their children. This initiative provides support and hands-on parenting education. In collaboration with five other human service organizations, the program helps mothers learn how to create a nurturing, safe and healthy environment for their children.

Special Services: Grief Support The Intensive Trauma Assistance Program (ITAP) is a specialized outpatient mental health service for children between two and fourteen years old who have recently experienced or witnessed a severely traumatizing event. The traumatic events survived by the clients are out of the range of typical human experience, such as witnessing/experiencing the homicide or suicide of a parent or sibling or living through a house fire where a family member or members were killed. In addition to providing the traumatized children and their caregivers with traditional clinic-based outpatient mental health services, ITAP clinicians provide trauma-focused interventions in the child’s home, at his/her school, in the hospital, in the courtroom or to communities where incidents of extreme violence/horror have occurred.

Inpatient Hospitalization: Inpatient Units Northwestern is a 146-bed, private psychiatric hospital. It offers both children and adolescent services. The children admitted to the children’s unit are identified with emotional and behavioral problems like aggression, hyperactivity, withdrawal, impulsivity, and severe noncompliance with age-appropriate activities of daily living. Treatment modalities include: individual and/or play therapy, a structured safe environment, psychological testing where appropriate, family therapy, educational programming, recreational and art therapies and comprehensive discharge planning. The adolescent programs’ population is identified with significant psychological dysfunction. Depression, oppositional behavior, conduct problems and acute psychosis are common problems of this group. Treatment is also provided for those patients with significant substance use/abuse. Individual therapy, a structured therapeutic environment, psychological testing, family therapy, educational programming, recreational and art therapies, and comprehensive discharge planning are all part of the adolescent's treatment. All Adolescent Programs include focus groups to address substance abuse. The Children's Program is for 6 to 12 years. The adolescent programs are for 12 to 18 years.

Vocational Education: Other Community Services This program serves individuals with a history of psychiatric illness that has prevented them from finding competitive employment. Training courses are offered in custodial maintenance, building services, office practices, and personal grooming. The program lasts up to 18 months, with extended training as needed. Allies are school staff members in the Philadelphia public schools. Special Services: Pregnancy Prevention/Teen Parents ELECT Teen Parent Centers are in each of the School District’s comprehensive high schools. A staff of case managers, educational advisors and social workers provide intensive, individual case management to pregnant and parenting students, while at the same time offering special services, academic alternatives, and career- and life-skills training which supplement the students' regular educational programs. Special Services: Drug & Alcohol Abuse Y-HEP is a comprehensive adolescent health promotion program for Philadelphia teens. Y-HEP’s goal is to empower vulnerable teenagers to take charge of their health, especially in regards to sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). This program attempts to reach teens in the areas and during times where drug use and sex work are occurring. The purpose of this initiative is to conduct outreach to these teens, and to link them to drug treatment, detox, medical care, psychosocial support services and substance abuse--and relapse--prevention services.
Special Services: Drug & Alcohol Abuse - Prevention/Early Intervention Y-HEP is a comprehensive adolescent health promotion program for Philadelphia teens. Y-HEP's goal is to empower vulnerable teenagers to take charge of their health, especially in regards to sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). This program attempts to reach teens in the areas and during times where drug use and sex work are occurring. The purpose of this initiative is to conduct outreach to these teens, and to link them to drug treatment, detox, medical care, psychosocial support services, and substance abuse prevention services.
Special Services: Sexual Health Y-HEP is teens talking to teens about HIV and sexual health; it’s about prevention, protection, and planning ahead. Y-HEP provides education for young people about HIV and AIDS, other sexually transmitted diseases, risk reduction, negotiation skills, peer pressure, unplanned pregnancies, and health resources. Teen outreach workers set up sites in different neighborhoods, shopping malls, and local hangouts to distribute condoms and HIV/AIDS-related information and offer health referrals. Y-HEP also offers mobile HIV antibody testing; workshops about safer sex, HIV, relationships and self-esteem; and support groups for young people to talk about sexual health and many related issues in a safe environment.

Youth United for Change provides a supportive, non-threatening atmosphere to encourage self-expression, self-evaluation, and exploration of ideas. Drug & alcohol education is combined with alternative activities that promote leadership and decision-making skills, positive peer relations, group cooperation, and enhanced self-esteem.
